At the introduction of every hot new sport-utility vehicle, we are enticed by the fully loaded, powerful V-8 version. But the model that seems always to end up selling best is the lesser, six-cylinder version. That is eminently sensible, given that these big wagons are primarily suburban beasts of burden. They can easily manage their daily tasks with a horsepower total of less than 300 and a price that’s closer to 50 grand than 60.
